What is Zero Waste?

Well, we prefer low waste, but the term Zero Waste Shop has stuck, so… It’s a way of shopping to reduce packaging waste and single use plastic items.

 

How Does This Help Me?

You can just buy small amounts of food and groceries which is more affordable and easier to carry home and store.

 

How Does Zero Waste Help the Planet?

Reducing plastic waste is hugely important in preventing global emissions from rising any further.

 

Swapping disposable plastic items for reusables made from more sustainable materials keeps more fossil fuels and carbon safely locked in the ground.

 

Buying ethically and sustainably produced food with a low carbon footprint is vital in ensuring our food systems continue to produce enough to feed everyone.

 

But I don’t have/can’t carry loads of fancy glass containers to the shop!

 

Don’t worry, bringing your own container is not always necessary. We can provide plastic free packaging for most items, and we sell a selection of reusable containers here - but you are always welcome to bring anything suitable from home to refill, and clean dry plastic bottles and tubs are also fine. There are also concentrated cleaning products that you just pick up a small amount of & dilute to use at home.

 

Remember!

Zero Waste doesn’t have to be extreme or mean changing everything in your life. It can be as simple as swapping your toothbrush for a bamboo one, or refilling your washing up liquid bottle when it runs out.

 

Everybody doing little bits here and there is just as effective as a few hardcore people with zero plastic items in their life. Using a shampoo bar just half the week means you have immediately halved your plastic waste from shampoo bottles!
